COT Lanka Coco Peat is a 100 % natural substance obtained from the coconut palm. It is a fortuitous by – products of the Sri lanka coco – fibre industry. Its beneficial properties have allowed it to be used extensively as a growing medium for plants. |

CoCo Peat is the 'coir fiber pith' or 'coir dust'
produced as a bi-product when coconut husks are processed for the
extraction of the long fibers from the husk. Coir is the outside layer of husk that surrounds the shell of the coconut. It consists mainly of fibres, which have traditionally been used to manufacture rope, carpets, doormats, upholstery stuffing, brushes etc. Between these fibres is the corky substance called "Coir Pith" or Coir "Dust" which has recently been widely recognised as the superior growing medium in which to grow tomatoes, roses and many other crops. The Horticulture industry often calls this substrate coco or Coir peat. Cocopeat or Coir Peat or Coco Dust is mainly used as a growing medium in Horticultural Planting or Greenhouse Growing, but can also used as a Conditioner and Soil Erosion Reducer . Coco fibre/pith has high lignin content. It provides excellent draining capacity. Water holding capacity is very high – about 8-9 times its weight and has a high nutrient absorption capacity. Healthy root growth is easy with CoCo Peat 100% natural organic coir. It is an excellent growing medium for both commercial and home gardening applications. The Horticulture Industries have observed that plants grown with the aid of cocopeat develop larger roots, blooms. This is because CoCo Peat provides more breathing space and aeration for plant roots, resulting in better growth .CoCo Peat can retain moisture up to nine times its own volume while maintaining excellent air filled porosity, providing vital oxygen to the roots and soil . |

COT Lanka Coco peat has the ability to absorb 8 to 9 times its weight in water, increasing the water retention capacity of soil and reducing the required frequency of watering. It contains phosphorous, potash, calcium, magnesium and several other important trace elements that ensure well-balanced plant growth. It can be incorporated into soils or other growing media, or fortified with basic nutrients to encourage optimal nutrients to encourage optimal plan growth. Sandy soil, or soils with organic matter, can be improved by adding Coco Peat. It has natural pH 5.5, 6.5 it has a high protective lignin content that resists bacterial or chemical decoposition and breakdown. It provides a suitable soil structure, and maintains good drainage and aeration, thereby promoting strong and early root growth. It is long – lasting in the soil and does not require regular application. It is an environmentally friendly, high quality substitute for peat moss. It is bio-degradable. It is a renewable resource. It is free of smell and safe to use indoors, in greenhouses, or field crops.
